Resin Driveway Cost in Essex
Resin bound is quoted per square metre, but the number that decides your invoice is what is underneath. An overlay onto a sound existing driveway and a full excavation with a new permeable base are two different jobs at two very different prices.
These are the bands we work to across Essex as approved installers, with our ten year guarantee on the finished surface.
- Resin bound, overlay
- £65 to £90 per m2
- Resin bound, full dig out
- £90 to £130 per m2
- Typical driveway total
- £3,000 to £8,500
- On site time
- Two to four days once the base is ready
Overlay or full excavation
If your existing drive is a sound, well drained concrete or tarmac slab with no significant cracking, resin can be laid over the top after preparation and priming. That is the cheaper route and it is genuine, not a shortcut, provided the base is honestly assessed.
If the base is failing, moves under load or has no drainage design, an overlay simply transfers the problem to a new surface. In that case we excavate and build a permeable base, and we will say so at the survey rather than after the deposit.
Aggregate depth and blend
Domestic driveways are normally laid at 16mm to 18mm, with 24mm used where vehicle loading is heavier. Depth is not a place to save money, because a thin lay is the main cause of ravelling, where loose stone starts lifting from the surface within a couple of years.
Blend choice affects material cost modestly. Mixed borders, inlaid patterns and contrasting margins add labour rather than a huge material spend, but they do add time.
The extras that move the number
Drop kerbs and council applications, ACO channels where water needs intercepting, step treads, edge restraints, lighting ducts run before the surface goes down, and removal of an old block paved drive. All of them are quotable line items and all of them belong on the written quote, not in a phone call.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a resin driveway cost in Essex?
Between £65 and £90 per square metre as an overlay onto a sound base, and £90 to £130 per square metre with a full dig out and new permeable base. Most driveways total £3,000 to £8,500.
Is resin cheaper than block paving?
Usually slightly, particularly where an overlay is possible, because there is no excavation and no spoil to remove. On a full dig out the two are close, and the choice should come down to drainage, maintenance and looks.
Why do some resin quotes look much cheaper?
Almost always depth or base. A 12mm lay over an unsuitable slab will be cheaper today and will ravel later. Ask for depth in millimetres and the base specification in writing.
Do I need a drop kerb, and is it included?
Only if you are creating a new vehicle crossing. It is a separate council application with its own fee and is quoted separately so you can see exactly what it costs.
Is the resin driveway covered by your guarantee?
Yes. We are approved installers and our ten year guarantee applies to resin bound work as it does to everything else we install.
