Landscaping and Driveways in Hockley
Hockley is around six miles from our base and backs onto Hockley Woods, which shows in the gardens. Many SS5 homes sit on sloping, tree-lined plots, and shade, roots and leaf fall all affect what we recommend.
Gardens near the woods
Where mature trees are close by, we plan patios and paths to avoid damaging roots and to stop roots lifting the new surface later. Paving with good drainage, or a raised deck on a slope, often works better than cutting deep into the ground near large trees.
The 1960s estates here have simpler, flatter gardens, and the common jobs are replacing old slabs with a new patio, laying block paving on the drive, or fitting new fencing. On woodland-fringe houses, owners often ask for surfaces that are easy to sweep clear of leaves, which is where resin bound and porcelain earn their place.
Shade is the other thing to think about. Paving under trees can grow algae if it stays damp, so we suggest finishes that are easier to keep clean and explain how to look after them. Artificial grass can also help where real lawn struggles in the shade, as long as the base drains well and leaf fall is cleared regularly.
Practical answers
- Will tree roots be a problem for my patio?
- We check nearby trees at the site visit and design around roots rather than cutting through them where possible.
- Can you build on a sloping plot?
- Yes. Terracing with retaining walls, steps or raised decking are all things we do.
- What does it cost?
- Every garden differs, so we give a fixed written quote after a free visit.
