Fencing and gates across Essex

Fencing in Essex

Fencing is the most quoted and least explained job in landscaping. Panels get priced, posts get ignored, and the fence that was cheapest on paper is the one lying in the garden after the first serious gale.

We fit lap, feather edge, close board, slatted, picket and composite fencing, plus matching side gates and driveway gates, across the Essex patch from our base in Southend-on-Sea. Every run is measured and quoted as one fixed written figure, and all of it carries our ten year guarantee.

What we fit

The right fence depends on exposure, ground and what the boundary is for. A screening fence between two terraces is a different specification to a sea facing boundary that catches the wind off the estuary.

  • Close board and feather edge, built on site
  • Lap and waney edge panels for sheltered boundaries
  • Slatted and hit and miss for exposed, windy plots
  • Picket fencing for front gardens
  • Composite fencing, low maintenance and colour stable
  • Side gates, double gates and driveway gates

Priced per run, after measuring

We do not sell a flat rate per panel, because boundaries have corners, slopes, obstructions and gates. We measure the whole run, note the ground conditions and the access, then send one fixed price covering removal of the old fence as well as the new one.

Frequently asked questions

How much does fencing cost in Essex?

Fitted, roughly £75 to £120 per panel for lap, £110 to £180 for close board or feather edge and £220 to £380 for composite, with concrete posts and gravel boards adding £35 to £70 per bay.

Which fencing lasts longest?

Close board on concrete posts with gravel boards for timber, and composite if you want the lowest maintenance of all. The post specification matters more than the panel.

How high can I build my fence?

Generally up to two metres in a rear garden, and one metre where it adjoins a highway used by vehicles. Trellis counts towards the height.

Do you remove the old fence?

Yes, removal, disposal and breaking out old concrete footings are included as quoted line items.

Is fencing covered by the ten year guarantee?

Yes. Our ten year guarantee applies across all our work, fencing and gates included.
