Leaning Fence: Straightening It Without Rebuilding

A raised bed, a bank of soil or a neighbour's higher ground level pressing against the panels puts constant load on the fence. Fences are not retaining structures.

The proper answer is a retaining wall or sleeper edge to hold the soil, with the fence sitting above it.

Shrinking clay in dry summers, waterlogging in winter and inadequate concrete all let posts rotate in the ground. Corner and end posts take the most load and move first.

Bracing corners and using deeper, larger post holes at ends makes a measurable difference.

Where posts are sound, we can excavate, re-plumb and re-concrete them, then refit the panels. Where the timber has failed at ground level, they are replaced.

We also check the line and levels along the run so the finished fence looks right, not just upright at one point.
