Fully fitted prices in Essex generally sit in a similar range across the county, with the biggest variables being groundwork and access rather than postcode. A small, level rear lawn with easy access is quicker (and therefore cheaper per square metre) to install than a large, sloping garden reached only through a narrow side gate.

Supply-only pricing is driven by pile height, backing quality and yarn shape. Budget grasses look flat within a couple of seasons; the mid-range and premium grasses we specify hold their appearance for years.

For most Essex family gardens a 30–38mm pile with a mixed green/brown yarn looks the most natural and stands up to daily use. Shorter piles (20–25mm) suit balconies, roof terraces and putting-style areas where a manicured look is wanted. Longer piles feel plush underfoot but can flatten in high-traffic zones.

If pets or heavy use are a factor we recommend a pet-friendly backing with better drainage and a densely-tufted yarn that recovers well after use.

Large parts of Essex — particularly the Rochford peninsula, parts of Basildon and much of the Chelmsford basin — sit on heavy London clay. Clay holds water, so a proper sub-base is not optional. Skimping here is the single most common reason artificial lawns fail: they dip, hold puddles or grow moss along the seams.

Our specification uses a stone sub-base to the correct depth, a compacted grano dust layer to true up levels, a weed membrane and a shock pad or drainage layer where the ground calls for it. The result drains freely, stays level and won't sink.

A typical Essex install runs to two or three days for an average garden. We remove the existing turf and topsoil to the correct depth, install a treated timber or composite edge, build up and compact the sub-base, roll out and acclimatise the grass, cut in around borders and features, seam any joins with outdoor tape and adhesive, then brush in a kiln-dried silica sand infill to weight the grass and support the pile.

Everything is cleared and swept before we leave — you get a finished lawn, not a project to tidy up.
